EAST SIDE residence

Located on the historic East Side of Providence, Rhode Island, this property has been transformed into a series of gardens, each designed to integrate indoor/outdoor activities and to enhance views of the landscape from inside the residence.  The result is a series of distinct outdoor spaces that serve to seemingly expand the amount of useable space on the property, both indoors and outdoors.

In front, WDADG utilized low ornamental fencing, brick walls and piers, a custom walkway pavement pattern, and flowering shrubs to create a lush, outdoor entrance foyer that provides the historic home with the gateway it deserves.  In addition, dense plantings screen views of the foundation and adjacent driveway.  Enveloped in lush plantings of trees, shrubs, and perennials, the intimate main garden provides a quiet oasis within this urban residential neighborhood.  New fencing and arbors blend into the border plantings, screen views of neighboring properties, and provide filtered views from the shade garden into the main garden.  A small lawn area and Koi pond, complete with a gentle waterfall, further fill this garden with tranquil views and sounds.
